M&A – Star Bulk Carriers Acquisition of 34 Excel Maritime Vessels

Represented Athens, Greece-based Star Bulk Carriers Corp. (NASDAQ:SBLK) in connection with its $634.91 million acquisition of 34 operating drybulk carriers from Excel Maritime Carriers Ltd.

In August, 2014, Athens, Greece-based Star Bulk Carriers Corp. (NASDAQ:SBLK) announced an agreement to acquire 34 operating drybulk carriers from Excel Maritime Carriers Ltd. in a series of vessel closings commencing in August and expected to be completed by the end of 2014. The $634.91 million aggregate consideration for those vessel purchases will consist of 29.917 million shares of Star Bulk common stock and $288.39 million in cash. The transaction enhances Star Bulk’s position as the largest U.S. listed drybulk shipping company with a fleet of 103 vessels on a fully delivered basis.
