The National Law Journal Names Brian Maloney a Litigation Trailblazer

November 2, 2021

Brian Maloney, counsel in Seward & Kissel LLP’s Litigation Group, has been named a 2021 Litigation Trailblazer by The National Law Journal. He is one of only 25 attorneys recognized nationally.

Mr. Maloney has more than 15 years of experience litigating complex commercial disputes and managing regulatory investigations. His practice touches a wide range of sectors, including banking, maritime, and securities. He has represented ING Bank N.V. in over 50 actions arising from the collapse of O.W. Bunker & Trading A/S and its affiliates. The matters have generated two trials, more than half a dozen summary judgment motions, and more than a dozen matters on appeal around the country to date, and materially advanced the state of the law on interpleader and maritime lien claims.

Additionally, he successfully defended shareholder derivative and fraudulent conveyance actions brought in the High Court of the Republic of the Marshall Islands, and obtained dismissal on forum non conveniens grounds in a lawsuit brought in the District of Massachusetts on behalf of the owner of a small vessel involved in a collision in Greece. He has significant experience with the defense and prosecution of Rule B attachments, Rule C arrest actions, and in the defense of public shipping companies in securities class action claims, regulatory inquiries and investigations, and fraud claims.
