Seward & Kissel LLP Partner to be Installed at May 25 Reception

New York, NY, May 17, 2017 – Michael J. McNamara, a partner at Seward & Kissel LLP, has been elected President of the New York County Lawyers Association (NYCLA), an 8,000-member bar association with headquarters in Manhattan. One of the largest and most influential bar associations in the country, NYCLA has, for more than 100 years, focused its efforts on seeking to improve the administration of justice and bringing diverse perspectives to the legal profession. A long-time member of NYCLA, and most recently its President‑Elect, McNamara plans to build on the many important activities underway at NYCLA and direct his efforts toward ensuring the Association is responsive to the changing needs of its current and future members while also revitalizing NYCLA’s Justice Center.

“I am honored to serve as the next President of this great bar association. Technology has dramatically changed the way lawyers work, where they work, how they communicate and the tools they need to succeed. I plan to work with the leadership team and others in the organization to achieve the changes necessary to ensure NYCLA’s continued success for decades to come,” said McNamara. “I look forward to welcoming the next generation of lawyers to this wonderful institution, and to engaging our members in new and dynamic ways as we serve New York and its citizens.”

McNamara is Co-Head of the Litigation Department at Seward & Kissel, where he focuses his practice on representing financial institutions, investment companies, corporations and senior executives in a wide variety of matters. He also advises clients on employment-related matters, including executive compensation issues, group hires, restrictive covenants and workplace harassment issues.

“Michael McNamara is a great attorney, a tremendous leader and a man of impeccable character,” said past NYCLA President Michael Miller, who becomes President-Elect of the New York State Bar Association on June 1, 2017. “I look forward to seeing him carry this storied bar association into the future by reaffirming NYCLA’s commitment to dynamic programming and continuing its staunch advocacy for the effective administration of justice in both the state and federal courts. Michael is an exceptional consensus-builder, with keen judgment. He will be a great leader of NYCLA and our profession.”

McNamara was initially introduced to NYCLA in the 1980s, and was immediately impressed by how open the association was to embrace new members, add them to working committees and encourage their leadership and development. Years later, and now serving in an organizational leadership role, he is overseeing a Task Force exploring the specific challenges and opportunities that exist for NYCLA in the 21st century, focusing on the interests of its current and future members.

McNamara will officially take over leadership of the association at the 2017 NYCLA Annual Meeting & Reception on Thursday, May 25, 2017 at 5:30 p.m. at the historic NYCLA Home of Law, 14 Vesey Street, New York, NY 10007.
