Seward & Kissel Associate Rebecca Algie Receives Annual Her Justice John K. Geiger Award

February 28, 2017

New York, NY—February 28, 2017—Her Justice, a nonprofit organization that provides free legal services in family, divorce, and immigration law to low-income women living in New York City, has honored Seward & Kissel LLP associate Rebecca Algie with the 2017 John K. Geiger award.

The award, created in memory of John Geiger, a passionate and dedicated Her Justice long-term volunteer, is presented to one attorney each year for his or her outstanding advocacy on behalf of Her Justice clients. John Geiger, who donated his time to Her Justice clients, first as a paralegal, then as an attorney, demonstrated an unyielding compassion toward his clients and brought enthusiasm for this work to everyone he encountered.

Rebecca first became involved with Her Justice in 2010, and since then has been committed to providing pro bono legal help to Her Justice clients, primarly in litigated divorce cases. Throughout these cases, she has been a fierce advocate for her clients, working relentlessly to secure the most favorable terms on their behalf. In one matter, Rebecca helped her client secure primary residential custody of her severely ill daughter, as well as favorable visitation terms for the father, which ensured the daughter’s best interests were met.

“We are extremely proud of Rebecca’s commitment to Her Justice,” said Jack Yoskowitz, partner in charge of pro bono efforts at Seward & Kissel LLP. “The entire firm joins me in congratulating her on this award.”

Seward & Kissel has proudly supported Her Justice since 2009. During fiscal year 2015, the firm donated 2,204 hours of pro bono service to Her Justice cases.

Rebecca will be honored at the annual Her Justice Commitment to Justice Awards ceremony on February 28.
