Hume R. Steyer is a partner at Seward & Kissel and co-head of the firm’s Private Clients/Trust and Estates Group. Hume has practiced law since 1978. He joined Seward & Kissel as a partner in 1997.

Hume’s practice is focused primarily in the field of sophisticated estate and trust planning and administration, as well as in the establishment and administration of private and public charitable entities. The planning aspect of his practice includes advising on and implementing a broad range of family and business arrangements designed to promote financial stability and family welfare and to minimize taxation. Additionally, Hume handles tax and probate litigation and works with clients to realize their philanthropic objectives. Hume also has experience in the application of art law, particularly as it relates to collectors and artists.

Hume is a member of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York, and of the New York State and American Bar Associations. Hume is a member of the boards of the Lucretius Foundation, the Open Space Institute, Storm King Art Center and ARCAthens. He is chairman of the boards of Black Rock Forest Preserve and Black Rock Forest Consortium. He served from 2006-2009 as the Town Justice of Tuxedo, New York.
